About Jarrod
Thanks for checking out my site. Some more information about me –
I was born on a family farm in Illinois in 1980. We raised pigs and cows, along with corn, beans, and wheat. Most people that I have met as an adult have been surprised by this fact – I’ve managed to suppress both the accent and the overalls.
I have been a lifelong entrepreneur. The first job that I can remember is going out in the summer after dark with a flashlight, picking up dew worms to sell to the bait shop for a penny each. The owner would then turn around and sell them for $1 a dozen. Lesson learned – cut out the middle man.
I graduated from Rushville High School in 1998 as the class valedictorian. I went on to earn my bachelor’s and master’s degree in business from Western Illinois University in 2001 and 2002 respectively, graduating at the top of my class in both degrees.
I moved to Des Moines for work in the spring of 2003. Prior to that, I had worked as a furniture salesman, a grocery store night manager, and as a sculptor’s assistant to make ends meet (the job market post-9/11 was, well, challenging). However, I did learn a great deal about sales and small business ownership along the way. My day job is currently in the financial services industry, where I have worked for the past six years.
Since moving to Iowa, I have volunteered for many local organizations, including Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Central Iowa, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Children & Families of Iowa, and the AIDS Project of Central Iowa. It’s a great way to make new friends and to make a difference.
Two years ago, I started Sheets Marketing as a way to gain more experience in my field (my MBA had an emphasis in marketing) and to have an outlet for a lot of the creativity that I wasn’t able to express elsewhere. I take on clients on a one-off basis, as my time/schedule allows. While my schedule can be a bit hectic, it’s fun and challenging work!
I have never, ever, ever been able to answer the question, “Where do you see yourself in 5 years?” Life holds so many possibilities, and I hate to tie myself to just one. All I know is that in five years, I will be (1) happy, (2) making money, and (3) in charge of my own destiny. I’ll leave the specifics up to others!
Well kids, that’s about as far as I can go with a bio. If there’s something else about me you just HAVE to know, e-mail me your question at jarrod@jarrodsheets.com
